Shibori is the Japanese name for resist dyeing. Create beautiful patterns and designs by binding, stitching, folding and wrapping. Natural dyes and indigo can be used to achieve vibrant and striking fabrics.

An Introduction to Shibori with Natural Dyeing

In this workshop we will produce some samples and a exquisite naturally dyed and patterned scarf using Shibori techniques. We will start with a brief history of Shibori, before focusing on binding and stitching techniques for resist dyeing (tie dye) and discussing suitable equipment and fabrics.

We will then prepare and dye our own Shibori samples. We will also share tips on getting the best colour from our chosen dyestuff and natural dyebath.

Turning our attention to our scarves, we will develop our ideas and create our patterns, preparing them using the techniques we have learned. Once dyed we will remove the stitching and binding to reveal our exquisite scarves.
